Title: The Almost Moon

Author: Alice Sebold

I have to be honest I did not really enjoy the book. I felt like it lacked suspense and action, and at most times it was very dull. The story was not interesting either. I feel like this book is better for those interested in drama as a genre and those into books with quirky and unusual characters. Rating = ❤❤❤

Title: The Little Paris Bookshop

Author: Nina George

This book was mostly entertaining. The story was cute and heartwarming. Once again though, I felt the genre was not really the one for me. At points I felt bored because the story lacked action. I also found that the book was slow to pick up, however i did like the overall story and the characters. Rating = ❤❤❤❤

Title: A Thousand Splendid Suns

Author: Khaled Hosseini

I absolutely adored this book.  The story was rich in culture and emotion . It was captivating from start to finish and kept me hooked. It was very unique, and gave me an insight on what the traditions and rituals are of the Afghan culture.  the book was in all entertaining and it really touched my heart. Rating = ❤❤❤❤❤

Title: End of Days

Author: Eric Walters

I found this book entertaining. I was hooked most of the time, however thing that bored me was that the story was a very cliche dystopian-type novel and was not challenging at all. It still did however have a uniqueness to it, and one thing that I really enjoyed was that each chapter switched between two separate stories that were related, and in the end came together. Rating = ❤❤❤❤

This month, I feel, was particularly successful when it comes to my reading rate. I was able to read about 52 pages per day, which is really good. I think that the reason for my really high reading rate was because I was reading more candy books than challenging novels, and because this month was not very busy with the semester just starting. I realized that I am the type of reader that will read multiple books at once. I’ll read one book at home, one between studying, and one at school.  I also found that I prefer books that have more action, suspense, or adventure, and less romance or emotional drama. Books like these keep me hooked, whereas slow books make me bored and I’ll lose interest. This may be why I preferred “End of Days” and “A Thousand Splendid Suns” over the other two books.

For next month my goal for my reading ladder is to keep up with the success of this month by reading at least three to four books, and achieving a reading rate of around 50 to 60 pages per day. One thing that I particularly want to focus on is reading more challenging novels than just candy novels. Some books, specifically, that I would like to read are:

  • Milk and Honey” – by Rupi Kaur (a poetry book)
  • Pride and Prejudice” – by Jane Austin
  • The Goldfinch” – by Donna Tartt
